Nightlife on Koh Phayam

by | Feb 5, 2017 | CITY GUIDES, Koh Phayam, Thailand, Travel | 1 comment

Although Koh Phayam is not known as a party island, there’s still plenty to do at night. There’s usually one “go to” party every night, you just have to ask where it is. Not being a huge partier, I typically chose to stay in and hang out with people at my Bungalows.

Card Nights

One of the favourite things I packed is my deck of cards and phase 10 game. We had a few card game nights at the Bungalows and I loved it. Time and time again, traveling solo has taught me to be confident and proud of who I am. I love playing cards, and would much rather do that than go out drinking every night. It gives me a chance to get to know other people in a more relaxed setting. It also saves me money when I do want to drink, as the beers at resorts are typically cheaper than the bar.

Live Music

Every Tuesday and Thursday you could go to live music at the bar, but one of the BBQ nights I mentioned turned into a very special treat! Lenni invited her friend, Bart Voncken, who turns out to be an amazing Dutch singer songwriter. She put a guitar in his hands and we had our very own live performance! The quality of this video isn’t great, but it gives you a taste of what his voice sounded like. I loved it!

Hippy Bar

No stay on Koh Phayam is complete without a trip to Hippy Bar! A giant pirate ship built on the beach with plenty of neat little nooks, this place is amazing. I went there for dinner but they ended up being out of electricity, so instead I got a coke and watching as the staff fed bananas to the Hornbills.

Hippies Bar

Built just this year, Hippies Bar is not to be confused with Hippy Bar. Lara, Jorin and I went there one night with First and Lek. There was an amazing fire dancing show and Thai dancers! They had the whole audience dancing by the end and Lara and I learned some traditional Thai dance moves.

As I look back on all my time on Koh Phayam, I am so grateful I made it my first stop. It was the perfect place to rest, rejuvenate and meet some really awesome people. It also led me to my next destination! Lek, the resort owner, invited me to come with him on his 3 day trip back home in Ubon Ratchathani. I immediately said yes and booked a ticket. Off to my next adventure, this time with a local to show me around!
